Cool. President Elect Barack Obama.
Listen, I have nothing against the white male - I married one, folks - but I don't have words to describe the excitement I feel about having as our future President, finally, someone other than a white male. Though for me this election was in no way about race, I cannot help but feel pride that this qualified leader has also given birth to a poignant, historical moment in our country. No matter where our political beliefs reside, can we not embrace and share the long overdue grace of just that moment?

ReplyDeleteI am a white man and I am absolutely thrilled to see someone with a skin color different than mine in the White House! But more important than skin color, he's an inspirational speaker and a man with a vision for a greater America, not one bogged down in negativity and fear! Bravo Obama, Bravo!
ReplyDeleteAs a woman, I couldn't agree more that it is thrilling to see a minority as President (and someday, it will be a woman!). A historical moment for our country and one that many thought never possible. Like you said, he is a qualified leader, but it is also a thrill we should all share for a collective moment in time.

ReplyDeleteI never, ever believed this could happen in my life. We finally did it! We finally proved to ourselves that everyone, regardless of color or creed, can achieve the ultimate seat of power and lead the greatest country in the world.

Does anyone care that we are going to have to PAY for all these welfare programs, food stamps, etc. etc.? You all must have tons of money... I'm so happy for you. Just let me know how you think all these wonderful programs are going to be funded?

I have a friend whose grandfather worked 2 jobs to be able to pay the *poll tax* so he could vote - a poll tax which, conveniently, men whose father or grandfather had voted in previous elections didn't have to pay! So - a tax for black people, basically. That was just abolished 40 years ago! Now look!! I was boo-hooing, watching Barack's speech. Tears. of. joy.

"HOPE is like a road in the country; there was never a road, but when many people walk on it, the road comes into existence." (Lin Yutang) The road of "Yes, we can," has come into existence, because many hopeful Americans walked together. Inspiring a nation, as Obama has done, is no small task. He empowers all of us.
